The Turok franchise is officially making its return with Turok: Origins, a brand-new action game designed to introduce the classic dinosaur-hunting series to a modern generation. Developed and published by Saber Interactive in collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences, the game combines dinosaurs, alien enemies, futuristic weapons and exploration in a completely new adventure.
Originally revealed in 2024, Turok: Origins is not simply a remaster of one of the older games. Saber describes it as a new evolution of the Turok franchise, featuring a new story, modern gameplay and a third-person perspective.
Turok: Origins Has a New Story
The story takes players into the Lost Lands, where the legendary Turok warriors must confront both ferocious dinosaurs and an aggressive alien threat.
The alien Xenia are engaged in a massive conflict with humanity and are searching for ancient secrets that could potentially lead to humanity’s destruction. Players will travel through different worlds while uncovering mysteries connected to the ancient Order of the Turok.
That means the new game isn’t simply about fighting dinosaurs. Its setting combines prehistoric creatures with science-fiction elements, continuing one of the franchise’s defining characteristics.
Modern Third-Person Combat
One of the biggest changes is the game’s perspective. Turok: Origins is a third-person shooter, rather than following the traditional first-person format associated with many earlier Turok games.
Saber has confirmed a large arsenal that includes plasma rifles, ray guns, sniper weapons, bows, shotguns and other advanced weapons. Players can also combine conventional firearms with melee attacks and special abilities.
The combat is designed around different enemy types, including dinosaurs, alien creatures and large bosses.
DNA Powers Add a New Gameplay System
One of the most interesting additions is the DNA power system.
Players can extract DNA from defeated enemies and the environment, using it to unlock abilities and upgrade their combat suit. These upgrades can change the player’s capabilities and provide additional options during battles.
This system gives Turok: Origins a progression mechanic beyond simply collecting better weapons.
Dinosaurs, Aliens and the Lost Lands
Exploration will take players across several dangerous environments. Official material mentions ancient temples, wasteland canyons, dense jungles and other locations across different planets.
Dinosaurs and other creatures can appear across the ground, sky, swamps and caves, while larger boss encounters are also part of the experience.
The combination of jungle environments, gigantic dinosaurs and alien technology gives the game a noticeably different identity from many modern shooters.
Solo and Three-Player Co-Op
Turok: Origins can be played as a single-player adventure, but Saber is also building the game around online cooperative play.
The game supports co-op for up to three players, allowing friends to experience the campaign and combat together. Saber has explained that having multiple Turok warriors in the story helped create the opportunity for cooperative gameplay.
This makes the new Turok different from the more traditional single-player-focused structure of earlier entries.
Turok: Origins Release Date and Platforms
Turok: Origins was initially expected to launch in 2026, but Saber later moved the game to Spring 2027. A new story trailer was also shown during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026.
The game is coming to:
- PC
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- Nintendo Switch 2
The official Nintendo listing currently lists the game for 2027, while PlayStation’s page confirms the PS5 version and online support for up to three players.
A New Beginning for Turok
Turok: Origins is shaping up as a modern reinterpretation rather than a straightforward remake. Saber is keeping the franchise’s core ingredients — dinosaurs, exploration, weapons and science-fiction — while adding third-person combat, co-op and DNA-based character progression.
With its release now scheduled for Spring 2027, more gameplay details are expected as Saber continues to build toward launch.
For longtime Turok fans, the biggest question is how successfully the new third-person formula can preserve the identity of the classic games while making the franchise accessible to a new generation.
