More than a decade after Battlefield: Bad Company 2, fans are still asking EA to bring the beloved spin-off series back. The latest discussions surrounding the Battlefield franchise have once again highlighted interest in a potential Bad Company 3, but there is an important distinction between fan demand and an actual EA project.
As of September 2026, EA has not officially announced Bad Company 3, and the company’s current Battlefield communications are focused on Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC rather than a new Bad Company title.
That has not stopped the community from continuing to ask for the franchise’s return.
Why Bad Company Still Has a Dedicated Fanbase
The Bad Company games occupied a different space within the Battlefield franchise.
The original Battlefield: Bad Company launched in 2008, followed by Battlefield: Bad Company 2 in 2010. Unlike the more serious tone of several mainline Battlefield campaigns, the Bad Company games focused heavily on a group of unconventional soldiers and their humor.
The squad of Preston Marlowe, Terrence Sweetwater, George Haggard and Samuel Redford became one of the franchise’s most recognizable casts.
The games also combined Battlefield’s large-scale combat with destructible environments and a more character-driven campaign. The original game’s official Xbox description, for example, highlights its destructible environments, sandbox gameplay and Gold Rush multiplayer mode.
Bad Company 2 Left the Door Open
The possibility of a third game has remained interesting partly because Bad Company 2’s story was structured in a way that could have supported another adventure.
Former Bad Company 2 lead designer and writer David Goldfarb later revealed that he had actually started working on ideas for Bad Company 3.
In 2025, Goldfarb discovered and shared pages from an old Bad Company 3 script, giving fans a glimpse into what his version of the sequel could have looked like. Reports based on his material explained that the story would have involved the squad returning for another dangerous mission.
However, this was not an unreleased EA game that was secretly in development. Goldfarb clarified that the studio itself had not formally developed the concept; he had been writing the material independently.
That distinction is important when discussing Bad Company 3 today.
The Abandoned Story Could Have Been Very Different
One of the most interesting details from Goldfarb’s old concept was its potential setting.
He previously explained that he had wanted to continue the story with Alaska occupied by Russia, creating a new conflict for the Bad Company squad.
The concept was never turned into an official sequel, meaning this storyline should be viewed as an example of the direction the former developer had imagined — not as confirmed information about a future Bad Company game.
Fans Are Still Asking EA for a Return
Fan interest has not disappeared.
Recent Battlefield community discussions continue to include requests for the Bad Company franchise, with players specifically asking EA for ways to revisit the older games and bring the series back.
There are also recent community discussions about a potential Bad Company 3 following Battlefield 6, showing that the idea remains part of the conversation among Battlefield players.
However, online fan demand should not be confused with evidence that EA has greenlit a new project.
Is Bad Company 3 Actually in Development?
There is currently no official confirmation.
EA’s current Battlefield news page lists ongoing Battlefield 6 updates and Battlefield REDSEC developments, but there is no announced Bad Company 3 project.
That means there is currently no confirmed:
- Release date
- Trailer
- Gameplay footage
- Developer
- Story
- Platforms
- Returning characters
- Official production status
Older rumors have claimed that DICE was working on Bad Company 3, including reports surrounding the PS5 and Xbox Series generation, but those reports were never followed by an official announcement.
Could EA Bring the Franchise Back?
A return is technically possible, but there is currently no confirmed project to point to.
David Goldfarb has previously discussed the possibility of another Bad Company game and explained why the franchise had a distinctive identity. In a later discussion, he also suggested that Battlefield leadership could theoretically make a revival happen, while acknowledging the commercial and creative risks involved.
For now, however, Bad Company 3 remains a fan-requested sequel rather than an announced EA game.
The demand demonstrates that the Bad Company name still has recognition within the Battlefield community, but whether EA eventually acts on that demand remains unknown.
