The next Star Wars Jedi game is still moving forward at Respawn Entertainment, but fans are still waiting for the studio to officially reveal its title, gameplay and release plans.
The project was first confirmed through Cameron Monaghan, the actor behind Cal Kestis, who said in September 2023 that the team was working on a third game. The following year, EA gave the project a much stronger official status, stating that Respawn was working on the final chapter of the Star Wars Jedi story.
The latest evidence suggests that development remains active. In July 2026, Respawn posted a Narrative Designer (Star Wars Jedi) position for a 12-month temporary full-time role. The listing specifically identifies Respawn as the studio and the Star Wars Jedi team as the project area.
However, there is an important distinction: Respawn has not publicly confirmed that the game has officially entered a specific “pre-production” phase.
Star Wars Jedi 3 Is the Final Chapter
The biggest confirmed detail about the upcoming game is its role within the trilogy.
EA said in September 2024 that Respawn was working on the final chapter of the Star Wars Jedi story. The announcement positioned the project as the conclusion to Cal Kestis’ arc rather than simply another unrelated Star Wars game.
That gives the upcoming title a very different narrative position from Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor.
The first game introduced Cal as a Jedi survivor hiding from the Empire after Order 66. Jedi: Survivor then moved his story forward five years and expanded his relationships, abilities and conflict with the Empire.
The third game is therefore expected to provide the concluding chapter of that journey.
Cal Kestis Is Expected to Return
EA’s official description of the project specifically refers to the final chapter of Cal Kestis’ story, making Cal’s return the central expectation surrounding the game.
Lucasfilm also reinforced interest in continuing Cal’s story in 2026. A representative said that there are more Cal stories coming, although that statement does not specifically confirm that every future Cal story will be a video game.
For the game itself, however, EA’s earlier confirmation makes the connection to Cal much clearer.
What remains unknown is exactly how much time will have passed since Jedi: Survivor and how that will affect Cal’s abilities, relationships and role within the galaxy.
Is Star Wars Jedi 3 in Pre-Production?
This is the part of the viral headline that needs clarification.
A July 2026 Respawn job listing is one of the clearest recent signs that work remains active. The Narrative Designer (Star Wars Jedi) position is a 12-month temporary full-time role, with the job description involving collaboration with writers, designers and other development disciplines.
That is meaningful evidence that Respawn is continuing to build the next Jedi project.
But a job listing alone cannot establish the exact production phase.
Therefore, describing the game as “reportedly in pre-production” is reasonable as a report or interpretation, but it should not be presented as an officially confirmed development-stage announcement.
The safer wording is that Star Wars Jedi 3 remains actively in development.

Respawn has revealed almost nothing about the actual gameplay.
