The idea of a new Scarface 2 game continues to attract attention among fans of open-world crime games, especially after previously unreleased material from the cancelled sequel surfaced online. However, the current evidence does not confirm that a new Scarface 2 is actively in development in Los Angeles.
The original Scarface: The World Is Yours was developed by Radical Entertainment and released in 2006. Instead of simply retelling the 1983 movie, the game created an alternate continuation in which Tony Montana survives and attempts to rebuild his criminal empire.
What Happened to Scarface 2?
A genuine sequel was once being developed by Radical Entertainment. Reports from the period indicate that the project was caught up in the major changes surrounding Activision’s acquisition of Vivendi Games and the restructuring of Radical Entertainment.
In 2008, Activision Blizzard did not include Scarface 2 among the projects it was continuing, while the video-game rights eventually reverted to Universal. Contemporary reporting described the sequel as a casualty of the restructuring.
Years later, the cancelled project resurfaced when concept artwork and gameplay footage appeared online in 2022. The material showed that the game was intended to move Tony Montana’s story away from Miami and into Las Vegas.
The Cancelled Sequel Was More Ambitious
The leaked material makes the cancelled project particularly interesting for modern fans.
The planned sequel reportedly explored Las Vegas and was designed around expanding Tony’s criminal empire. The footage also demonstrated environments and gameplay systems that suggested the project was targeting the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 generation.
That makes the idea of a modern Scarface 2 remake or reboot especially intriguing. With today’s open-world technology, a new game could potentially deliver a much larger criminal underworld, detailed city environments, improved driving, cinematic missions and a more sophisticated empire-building system.
However, those possibilities are fan expectations rather than confirmed features.
Is a New Scarface 2 Actually in Development?
This is where the current rumor needs to be treated carefully.
As of the latest information available, there is no reliable official announcement confirming that a new Scarface 2 game is currently in development in Los Angeles.
The strongest evidence remains connected to the cancelled Radical Entertainment project, rather than a newly announced production. VGC’s reporting on the leaked footage also identifies the project as cancelled and connects its cancellation to Radical’s acquisition by Activision.
There was also renewed attention around Scarface: The World Is Yours in 2025 after an unusual PC re-release appeared on Steam and Epic Games Store before being removed. The publisher subsequently said the release had been put live unintentionally while licensing and technical matters were still being discussed.
That situation has generated additional interest in the franchise, but it should not be presented as evidence that Scarface 2 has entered development.
Could Tony Montana Return?
A modern Scarface game would certainly have potential.
The original game successfully combined third-person action, driving, open-world exploration and criminal empire mechanics. A modern sequel could take those foundations considerably further with a larger city, dynamic NPCs, realistic interiors, advanced vehicle systems and deeper territory-control mechanics.
But for now, a new Scarface 2 game remains unconfirmed.
The confirmed historical story is much more interesting: Radical Entertainment really did work on a sequel, the project was cancelled, and years later fans finally got to see pieces of what could have been.
Until a publisher or rights holder officially announces a new game, claims that Scarface 2 is currently in full development should be treated as rumor rather than fact.
