After years of uncertainty, Beyond Good & Evil 2 has received another important development update. Ubisoft’s long-awaited sequel is still being worked on, with a Ubisoft developer recently confirming that he has spent the past several months supporting the project.
The news is particularly significant because Beyond Good & Evil 2 has endured one of the industry’s longest development cycles. The project was originally announced in 2008 before being reintroduced with a major cinematic trailer at E3 2017.
Now, new information from inside Ubisoft provides fresh confirmation that the game has not been abandoned.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 Is Still in Development
The latest update comes from Rik Godwin, a Ubisoft narrative director and writer who has worked on projects including Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Godwin recently revealed that he has been working on Beyond Good & Evil 2 for the past few months in a support and consultant role. He also indicated that he had checked internally before publicly discussing his involvement.
While Godwin did not reveal new gameplay footage, story information or a release window, his involvement is meaningful because it directly confirms that Ubisoft is still actively working on the project.
This is considerably stronger than older speculation based only on job listings or insider reports.
Ubisoft Previously Said the Project Survived Its Restructuring
The latest confirmation also follows Ubisoft’s major restructuring earlier in 2026.
The company cancelled several projects and made significant organizational changes, leading to concerns that Beyond Good & Evil 2 could also be affected.
However, Ubisoft creative director Fawzi Mesmar said in January that his team and Beyond Good & Evil 2 were unaffected by the changes. Reports at the time also indicated that the project had survived Ubisoft’s cancellations.
That means the latest developer confirmation isn’t coming out of nowhere. It reinforces previous information that the project remained active despite Ubisoft’s restructuring.
What Is Beyond Good & Evil 2?
Ubisoft’s official description positions Beyond Good & Evil 2 as a prequel and spiritual successor to the original game.
The adventure is set in System 3, a large science-fiction setting containing planets, moons, human characters and hybrid clones. Players are expected to rise from a relatively low-level space pirate toward becoming a legendary pirate.
The game has also been described as an action-adventure RPG that can be played alone or cooperatively with friends.
Ubisoft previously presented a large-scale vision involving planetary exploration, space travel, characters, combat and a seamless online environment. However, because the game has been in development for so long, it is difficult to know how closely the current version resembles what was shown publicly in 2017 and 2018.
Could the Game Have Changed Significantly?
Almost certainly, the project has evolved over time, although Ubisoft has not provided a complete explanation of its current design.
The original demonstrations showed a huge sci-fi world with space travel, exploration, cooperative gameplay and a strong emphasis on freedom.
Ubisoft’s official website still describes a seamless online playground where players can explore planets and space, encounter enemies and progress through a large-scale adventure.
However, fans should avoid assuming that every feature shown in the older demonstrations remains exactly the same.
Nearly a decade has passed since the game’s 2017 re-reveal, and the project has gone through changes in leadership and development structure.
Ubisoft Montpellier Remains Central to the Project
Beyond Good & Evil 2 has historically been associated with Ubisoft Montpellier, the studio behind the original game.
A June 2026 report quoted Ubisoft’s Rayman Legends Retold producer Loïc Gounon saying that some members of the core team at Montpellier were still working on Beyond Good & Evil 2.
The latest Rik Godwin update suggests that Ubisoft Bordeaux is also providing support through personnel working in consulting and narrative-related roles.
This points to a project that continues to receive support from different parts of Ubisoft rather than one that has quietly been shelved.
Does Beyond Good & Evil 2 Have a Release Date?
No.
This remains one of the biggest unanswered questions surrounding the project.
Ubisoft’s official Beyond Good & Evil 2 website currently says that a release date has not yet been announced.
There have been reports and speculation about a possible future reveal, including suggestions that Ubisoft could show the game again before the end of 2026. However, those reports are not an official release announcement.
There is also no confirmed launch year, price or final platform list currently published by Ubisoft.
Beyond Good & Evil 2 Isn’t Dead — But the Wait Continues
The latest information provides one important answer: Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still alive and in development.
A Ubisoft developer has now publicly confirmed recent work on the project, while earlier 2026 information indicated that the game survived Ubisoft’s restructuring.
What remains unclear is when Ubisoft will finally show the current version of the game and whether its original vision has changed substantially.
For now, fans can safely say that Beyond Good & Evil 2 has not been cancelled and remains an active Ubisoft project. But there is still no official release date.
After such a long development journey, the next major milestone will likely be Ubisoft revealing what the modern version of Beyond Good & Evil 2 actually looks like.
