The Alien franchise could be preparing to expand its gaming lineup once again. While Alien: Isolation 2 is already officially confirmed, a separate AAA Alien project has also been linked to Eidos-Montréal, and recent reports suggest the mysterious game may still be alive.
The project has been surrounded by uncertainty for years, partly because it reportedly changed developers during production. However, the latest information gives fans a better idea of what this rumored game could offer.
A Separate Alien Horror Game Is Reportedly in Development

According to Insider Gaming’s reporting, the project has existed in various forms since at least 2020 and was previously associated with the codename “Marathon.” The game reportedly moved between different development teams before documents identified Eidos-Montréal as the studio currently working on it.
Unlike the recently announced Alien: Isolation 2, this project is reportedly designed around a more action-oriented survival-horror formula.
The concept has been described as something similar to Shadow of the Tomb Raider with Xenomorphs, combining exploration, combat and horror rather than relying entirely on hiding from the creature.
What Could the Gameplay Be Like?
The reported design sounds considerably more ambitious than a traditional Alien horror experience.
Sources have described a single-player game featuring combat, platforming, puzzles, stealth and resource management. The protagonist, reportedly named Aubrey, is said to be an engineer who can use equipment such as grappling hooks and magnetic boots.
Another interesting element is the reported enemy AI.
Instead of simply following predetermined attack patterns, enemies could potentially react to the player’s preferred tactics. That would mean repeatedly using the same strategy might eventually become less effective.
If implemented successfully, this could make encounters with Xenomorphs and other threats much less predictable.
The Game Survived Eidos-Montréal’s Layoffs
The project’s future became even more uncertain after Eidos-Montréal announced a major workforce reduction in March 2026.
The studio confirmed that 124 employees were affected, while longtime studio head David Anfossi also departed.
That naturally raised questions about the status of the rumored Alien game.
However, subsequent reporting citing industry insider Tom Henderson indicated that the Alien survival-horror project was not among the projects affected by the restructuring and remained in development.
That doesn’t mean the game is guaranteed to release, but it is an encouraging sign for fans who have been waiting for another major Alien horror experience.
How Is It Different From Alien: Isolation 2?

This distinction is important.
Creative Assembly’s Alien: Isolation 2 is officially announced by SEGA and is confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. It has a new protagonist, a new setting and a survival-horror approach connected to the original Alien: Isolation.
The Eidos-Montréal project is separate.
That means Alien fans could potentially receive two very different single-player horror games based on the same franchise. One would continue Creative Assembly’s Isolation formula, while the rumored Eidos project appears to be aiming for a broader combination of action, stealth, exploration and survival horror.
Could This Become a Major AAA Alien Game?
The reported scope certainly suggests that possibility.
The project has allegedly been in development for several years, and Insider Gaming previously reported that its budget had increased significantly compared with earlier plans. The game was also reportedly expected to target multiple platforms, although there is still no official release date.
Still, fans should keep expectations under control.
Eidos-Montréal and its parent company have not officially announced this Alien game, so reported features, characters and release information can change—or the project could ultimately be canceled.
Our Take
The most interesting part of this new Alien survival horror game rumor is that it doesn’t appear to be simply another version of Alien: Isolation.
If the reported mechanics are accurate, Eidos-Montréal could be attempting to create a more action-heavy Alien experience while retaining the franchise’s survival-horror identity.
For now, the strongest takeaway is that the project has reportedly survived the studio’s recent restructuring. But until Eidos-Montréal or the game’s publisher officially reveals it, everything beyond the reported development status should be treated as unconfirmed information.
And with Alien: Isolation 2 already officially on the way, the possibility of another major Alien horror game makes the franchise’s future in gaming particularly interesting.
