Nintendo may be preparing another surprise for Metroid fans. A mysterious listing from Brazil has reportedly revealed an unannounced project called Metroid Ravenous, creating fresh speculation about the next new Metroid game.
The listing appeared only months after Metroid Prime 4: Beyond arrived on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, making the timing particularly interesting. However, Nintendo has not officially announced Metroid Ravenous, so the project should still be treated as a rumor rather than confirmed news.
Metroid Ravenous Appeared in a Brazilian Rating Listing
The rumor began on July 1, 2026, when a Brazilian government rating database appeared to contain a listing for Metroid Ravenous.
According to the surfaced information, the project was associated with Nintendo of America and carried 2026 as its production year. The listing also mentioned violence-related content. The page was subsequently removed, but screenshots and reports of the listing continued circulating online.
There was no release date, developer confirmation or gameplay information attached to the listing.
That leaves the biggest question unanswered: What exactly is Metroid Ravenous?
Could It Be a Metroid Dread Sequel?
One of the most interesting theories is that the mysterious project could be the next 2D Metroid adventure.
Metroid Dread was released in 2021 and became the latest major 2D entry in the franchise. Because Metroid Prime 4: Beyond already occupies the series’ first-person 3D side, a new 2D project would make sense as Nintendo expands the franchise on Switch 2. Nintendo itself currently lists Metroid Dread alongside Metroid Prime 4: Beyond as part of the franchise’s modern lineup.
The “Ravenous” name also does not include “Prime,” which has encouraged some fans to believe this could be a separate mainline-style adventure rather than another Prime title.
That remains speculation, though.
Is Metroid Ravenous Coming to Switch 2?
The leaked information has been widely interpreted as pointing toward a Nintendo Switch 2 project.
That would be a logical target for a brand-new Metroid game. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond already demonstrated Nintendo’s willingness to bring Samus’ latest adventures to the new hardware, while a future 2D title could potentially use the Switch 2’s additional performance for larger environments, more detailed effects and improved loading times.
However, Nintendo has not publicly confirmed the platform for Metroid Ravenous.
There May Be More Than One Metroid Project
The story becomes even more interesting because the Ravenous rumor isn’t the only recent Metroid-related claim.
VGC editor-in-chief Andy Robinson reportedly responded to the Ravenous reports by suggesting that more than one new Metroid project could be coming. He did not provide details about the supposed projects, meaning fans should not interpret the statement as confirmation of specific games.
If accurate, Nintendo could potentially be developing multiple Metroid experiences simultaneously.
That could mean a new 2D game alongside another project, although there is currently no reliable information confirming what those additional titles might be.
What About a Super Metroid Remake?
Another possibility is a remake.
Earlier in 2026, separate reports suggested that Nintendo could be preparing a Super Metroid remake for Switch 2. That rumor was not officially confirmed either, but it gives the current Metroid speculation another possible explanation.
This creates several possibilities for Ravenous: it could be a completely new adventure, a follow-up to Metroid Dread, or something else entirely.
At this point, there simply isn’t enough information to determine which theory is correct.

The new Metroid game rumor is considerably more interesting than a typical anonymous leak because the Metroid Ravenous name reportedly appeared through an official Brazilian classification system before being removed.
That doesn’t automatically make the project real, but it gives the rumor a stronger foundation than pure fan speculation.
The biggest clue may ultimately be the timing. With Metroid Dread now several years old and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond already released, Nintendo has room to expand the franchise in a different direction.
A new 2D adventure starring Samus would be a natural move.
For now, however, Metroid Ravenous remains unconfirmed. Nintendo has not announced the game, its developer, release date or gameplay.
If the leaked listing is genuine, though, Metroid fans could have another major Samus adventure to look forward to.
