The God of War Egypt rumor has become interesting again after a major development surrounding the future of the franchise. For years, fans have speculated that Kratos could eventually travel to Egyptian mythology after his Greek and Norse adventures. Now, Sony Santa Monica has confirmed that another Kratos-led God of War game is in development.
However, there is still one major question: Will this new game actually take Kratos to Egypt?
At the moment, Egypt has not been officially confirmed as the setting. But several pieces of information have kept the theory alive.
A New Kratos Game Is Officially in Development
The biggest update is no longer just a rumor.
During a San Diego Comic-Con panel, Santa Monica Studio creative lead Cory Barlog accidentally revealed that another God of War game starring Kratos is already being worked on. Barlog explained that Kratos will appear in another game after God of War: Laufey and that the new project will directly connect to the events of Faye’s story.
The game does not have an official title yet, and Sony has not announced its release date or gameplay details.
This is significant because it confirms that the franchise’s next major Kratos chapter is already being planned while Laufey is being developed.
Why Egypt Is Still Being Discussed
The Egyptian theory didn’t appear out of nowhere.
In February 2026, dataminers reported finding unused dialogue and other material inside God of War Ragnarök. One of the more interesting discoveries involved a character called Mau, which fans connected to Egyptian mythology. The discovery reignited speculation that Egypt could eventually become an important setting for the franchise.
There is also historical evidence behind the idea.
Former Santa Monica Studio developer Tim Moss revealed in 2026 that the team had considered both Egyptian and Norse mythology when planning the 2018 God of War. The studio ultimately selected Norse mythology because it offered something familiar while still feeling different. Moss also suggested that Egyptian mythology could potentially have been part of the series’ long-term plans.
That doesn’t prove the next game will be Egyptian, but it makes the theory more interesting.
Even Kratos’ Actor Wants Egypt
Another reason the rumor continues to attract attention is Christopher Judge, the voice of Kratos.
During a 2025 appearance, Judge said that he would personally like to see the next God of War game explore Egypt. His comments were not an announcement, and he made it clear that the decision ultimately belongs to the developers.
Still, Judge’s comments gave fans another reason to imagine Kratos facing an entirely new group of gods.
Egyptian mythology would certainly provide plenty of possibilities, from Ra and Anubis to Set, Horus and Sekhmet.
But There Is a Major Complication
The latest God of War project has changed how we should look at the Egypt rumor.
Sony officially revealed God of War: Laufey in June 2026. The game follows Faye after her death as she awakens in a mysterious realm known as the Everywhen, where gods from different mythologies exist and compete for power.
That means Santa Monica Studio is no longer restricted to a single mythology.
Instead of moving Kratos from Norse mythology directly into Egypt, the franchise could use the Everywhen to connect multiple mythological traditions.
Interestingly, Laufey itself already features mythology beyond the traditional Greek and Norse settings, making the future of the series much harder to predict.
Could the Next Kratos Game Be Set in Egypt?
It is possible, but not confirmed.
The strongest argument for an Egyptian setting is the long history of Egypt-related rumors, the unused Ragnarök material, the former developer’s comments and Christopher Judge’s interest.
The strongest argument against treating it as fact is that Sony has revealed almost nothing about the new Kratos game beyond its connection to Laufey.
No Egyptian location, Egyptian god, gameplay footage or official setting has been announced.
Therefore, calling the game “God of War Egypt” as if it were already confirmed would be premature.

For now, the confirmed picture is much clearer:
