The inFAMOUS remake rumor has given PlayStation fans another reason to look back at one of Sony’s most requested dormant franchises. The series has been absent from the spotlight for years, but fresh comments from VGC journalist Jordan Middler have sparked speculation that something related to inFAMOUS could be happening within PlayStation.
There is an important caveat, though: PlayStation has not officially announced an inFAMOUS remake. Middler’s comments are based on information he had received, and he later acknowledged that the claim had not been independently verified by multiple sources.
What Do the inFAMOUS Remake Rumors Say?

According to Middler, there was an inFAMOUS-related project happening somewhere within PlayStation, but it was reportedly not tied to Sucker Punch Productions, the studio that originally created the franchise.
That detail is particularly interesting because Middler later suggested that the project could involve remakes of the first two games. However, he stressed that this was an implication rather than something his source explicitly told him.
In other words, the current information points toward a possible project, but there is still no official confirmation of its existence, developer or release plans.
Why an inFAMOUS Remake Makes Sense
The original inFAMOUS launched on PlayStation 3 in 2009, introducing players to Cole MacGrath and his electricity-based abilities. Its sequel followed in 2011, expanding the open-world formula and giving players a larger selection of powers and moral choices.
The franchise later moved to a new protagonist with inFAMOUS: Second Son, followed by First Light. PlayStation’s official coverage describes Second Son as an open-world superhero experience built around Delsin Rowe and his different power sets.
That history makes the first two games particularly interesting candidates for a modern remake.
A current-generation version could preserve the original story while rebuilding Empire City and New Marais with modern lighting, destruction, traversal systems and visual effects.
What Could an inFAMOUS PS5 Remake Improve?

A modern inFAMOUS remake PS5 release could potentially take advantage of hardware that simply wasn’t available during the PS3 era.
The most obvious upgrade would be visual quality. Electricity powers could receive dramatically improved particle effects, while the open-world environments could feature higher-detail buildings, denser crowds and more realistic destruction.
Traversal could also benefit from modern technology. Cole’s movement across rooftops was already one of the most recognizable parts of the original games, so a remake could make climbing, jumping and power-based movement feel considerably smoother.
The moral-choice system would also be an important feature to preserve. The ability to make heroic or destructive decisions helped separate inFAMOUS from many other open-world action games of its generation.
Why Sucker Punch May Not Be Developing It
The biggest question surrounding the rumor is the reported absence of Sucker Punch.
The studio is strongly associated with inFAMOUS, having created the original games before moving on to Ghost of Tsushima and its subsequent projects. That makes an external development team a surprising possibility.
However, outsourcing a remake would not necessarily be unusual. A separate studio could handle the technical modernization while working with PlayStation to preserve the original game’s identity.
That could allow Sucker Punch to remain focused on its current projects while PlayStation still explores the commercial potential of the franchise.
What Would Fans Want From the Remake?

If the rumor eventually becomes real, simply increasing the resolution probably wouldn’t be enough.
Fans would likely expect a proper modern remake with redesigned environments, improved combat, faster traversal and upgraded destruction. At the same time, the developers would need to avoid removing the systems that made the original games distinctive.
The powers should remain the centerpiece. Cole’s electricity-based abilities could look spectacular on PS5, particularly during large combat encounters.
A combined package containing the first inFAMOUS and inFAMOUS 2 could also make sense, especially if PlayStation wants to reintroduce the franchise before considering an entirely new game.
Will the inFAMOUS Remake Actually Happen?
For now, nobody can say for certain.
The rumor has enough detail to be interesting, but it is still unconfirmed. Middler himself explained that the information was not strong enough to be formally reported by VGC because it lacked confirmation from two independent sources.
Another layer of speculation came from reports that Sony is considering reviving older, unused PlayStation IP, which would make an inFAMOUS revival plausible—but that still does not confirm this specific project.
